Examples of Real Stories where the Fire Safety Stick saved the day!

The Fire Safety Stick has already proven itself very quickly, especially in Motorsport, Cars, Agriculture, Caravans, Marine, Commercial Vehicles and Home sectors, so far. In fact, off the back of the success stories, the Fire Safety Stick is present in Formula 1, with teams pit crews and engineers.
Read below some examples of the stories that have been officially confirmed by ourselves:

From a summer bacon snack to FIRE at the grill!

Richard Sails and his wife were enjoying a summer’s day when they fancied a bacon butty, or two. They placed the bacon under the grill of their oven, however, it was soon after met with flames reaching and licking up out of the back of the grill. The oven/grill over the years had built up a layer of grease which was now acting as the fuel for the fire. They promptly turned off the appliance, and retrieved a fire blanket, placing it over the flames. It became quickly apparent that this was to ill-effect, now producing smoke from underneath. Instead, they now grabbed their Fire Safety Stick, activated it and threw it directly into the grill, they ushered themselves out of their home to safety and called the fire brigade.
Once, deemed that it was now safe to re-enter their home, they found that the Fire Safety Stick had actually done the job by knocking out the fire, and continued discharging in their absence to keep it from reigniting.
This a prime example that even in a kitchen, the fire blanket was unable to extinguish the fire due to the vents on the front dn rear of a grill pan, but because it was burning fat on fire, no other extinguisher typically found in the home would have been suitable.

Now carried by Kent Fire & Rescue Service!

What do the Fire Services think of the Fire Safety Stick? Well, several fire services around the country are now installing the Fire Safety Stick in their own vehicles in case they themselves have a fire. Kent currently have 75 Fire Safety Sticks installed in their officers’ response vehicles across the county! However, don’t expect the firefighters to be extinguishing a blazing building with it, remember the Fire Safety Stick is all about dealing with fires just as they start and before they become established. For example, if a fire breaks out in the kitchen whilst cooking or a chimney fire starts in your log burner, then the Fire Safety Stick is ideal for you and me to use, dealing with the fire, whilst we wait for the fire service to arrive.
Also, many individual firefighters have purchased the Fire Safety Stick for their own use to protect themselves and their own families. And it is not just the fire services who have taken a keen interest, but other emergency services, including various police forces and regional ambulance services too. So if the Fire Safety Stick meets their requirements, for effectiveness, versatility and ease of use, shouldn’t you be considering carrying one too?  It’s already being carried in 300 vehicles for The Post Office and various other private company fleets, as well as on plant machinery. We know that products like the Fire Safety Stick in the home will really make a difference not only in protecting our possessions but also our lives.”

Did you know it can extinguish Chimney Fires too?

As the weather turns colder, we all love the heat from an open fire or stove burner in the home. However, how many of us are prepared for a fire in the chimney itself? Would you be?
Fortunately, Anthony C. from Ireland was when it happened to him and his family. Having seen the effectiveness of the Fire Safety Stick during a video demonstration as an extinguisher for electricians as well as its all-round capabilities, he purchased his from his local stockist. So, when a chimney fire started, he reached for a Fire Safety Stick activated it and put it in place for the discharge from the extinguisher to go straight up into the flue and so quickly suppressed and extinguished the fire. It was this quick thinking which avoided a much larger and more dangerous fire from taking hold in his home.

’59 Corvette saved by neighbour with Fire Safety Stick!

Nik Berg was chatting with his neighbour, admiring the neighbour’s ’59 Corvette. During the conversation, the owner of the Corvette mentioned about having some starting issues. Then, whilst trying to turn the engine over, they both saw black smoke emerging from the car. Next thing, there were flames starting to escape from the engine bay vents. Fortunately, Nik was quick thinking and told his neighbour to release, but NOT open the bonnet. Luckily, the neighbour followed those instructions and didn’t open it straight away. Meanwhile, Nik rushed to get his Fire Safety Stick and started to spray the low-pressure vapour into the slight opening of the unlatched bonnet, thereby suppressing the fire sufficiently to allow the safe, controlled raising of the bonnet to gain full access. It is this method that prevents excessive oxygen from feeding the fire. As a result, the fire was quickly under control and soon extinguished within the over 50-second discharge time of the FSS50 model. They used the long discharge time to ensure the fire was completely out with no small flames left to burn with hidden areas around the carburettor and engine.
It is well known that, although they can be effective in extinguishing fires, dry powder extinguishers will cause more damage to the engine and its components than the fire itself. Typically, this could require an extensive and costly rebuild, running into thousands. This is completely avoided with the Fire Safety Stick and in fact, in this particular case, once the minor fire damage had been repaired, the classic ’59 Corvette’s engine would roar again.

Frank Kelly’s ‘Baby Blue’ saved from FIRE at rally event!

Frank Kelly (Driver), Lauren Kelly (Co-driver and Daughter) and ‘Baby Blue’ (Car) experienced a fire after a main cable broke off from their alternator, resulting in the fire, during a rally event in February 2022. Frank acted quickly when coming to halt in a safe spot off track, grabbing their Fire Safety Stick and knocking out the fire within a few seconds. It is interesting that rally drivers are now opting to use their Fire Safety Stick before using any of their built-in systems or other handheld traditional extinguishers. This is likely because of the trust in the product that has grown since its introduction in 2019, and how the Fire Safety Stick does not leave behind any damaging mess, avoiding a complete engine rebuild. Since then ‘Baby Blue’ is back on the track gunning once again for the top spots at regular events.

Scene of fire caused while welding, saved by the Fire Safety Stick

Saves workshop during welding fire

Scott was busy welding in the workshop at Robert Tuckwell’s farm, when a fire broke out. He was just welding when a tiny amount of molten metal dripped from the vice and landed on the gas supply rubber pipe. This resulted in it burning through the pipe and igniting. Scott went straight for the Fire Safety Stick and soon had it discharging and he was amazed at how quickly it put the burning gas out. Being able to hold it in one hand meant I could quickly turn the main gas taps off, preventing any further ignition. He was amazed that it left no mess or residue at all and didn’t have any problems with breathing or visibility. Once it had finished, I could just get rid of the spent stick and open the workshop doors and within half an hour or so there was no sign of fire or fire extinguisher discharge.”
Having had fires before, Scott knew too well the mess that the large powder extinguisher makes. In fact, previously, he had managed to get a lot of the dry powder over himself, including breathing some in and it wasn’t pleasant at all!

Fire Safety Stick and quick-thinking motorhomer stops a disaster!

After neighbours with traditional extinguishers, and buckets of soapy water, failed to get past the vents, another neighbour with an FSS100 (100-second Fire Safety Stick) simply extinguished the fire within seconds of arriving.
The fire was at the back of a fridge and behind an external vent/grill, in a cavity. Clive B, the owner of a Fire Safety Stick heard the explosion, and a shout, and rushed to help the neighbours in need. When arriving he quickly realised that the traditional extinguishers, that had been used before he arrived, were not able to reach the fire, he then proceeded to activate his FSS100 (100-second Fire Safety Stick) and successfully extinguish the fire. This was achieved because the gas produced from the Fire Safety Stick was able to weave its way into the cavity and reach the source of the flames, whereas a traditional extinguisher needed a direct line of sight/attack.
We were very proud that the Fire Safety Stick was able to help prevent further loss of property, and that nobody was hurt during the event! And of course, we happily replaced the used Fire Safety Stick with a FREE replacement to Clive.

Roadside Hero Saves Elderly Couple’s Car Fire!

Benn Laidler, MBE, from Torque Events, sees a stranded car belonging to an elderly couple, on fire, he stops his car, runs back to the burning vehicle and extinguishers it before the fire takes hold and destroys the car.
Decorated, ex-forces, quick thinking Benn, drives by the car on fire, along the A303 just near Stonehenge and uses his Fire Safety Stick to quickly and easily extinguish the vehicle. As a result, the car was saved with what appeared to be just minor damage and not completely destroyed as would have been the case had he not reacted. He hadn’t even looked at the instructions prior to the incident or fully knew how to use it in a real-life fire situation, and was amazed at just how easy it was to use and quickly extinguish the fire.
Without a doubt, this is a perfect example of why it’s important to carry a Fire Safety Stick, not just to save your own property and protect loved ones but also to be a possible good samaritan and save someone else fire from getting out of control.

Combine Harvester saved by Fire Safety Stick

During the heatwave harvest of 2022, many combine harvesters and other farm vehicles became burnt-out wrecks. However, we have learnt of some heavy machinery being saved thanks to quick-thinking farmers equipped with the Fire Safety Stick. This particular example recounts a combine harvester being saved thanks to the Fire Safety Sticks ability to be thrown into hard-to-reach areas such as the thresher drum and repressing the fire, buying valuable time before the fire brigade arrived. Had it not been for the Fire Safety Stick, the whole combine and the surrounding crops would have been destroyed costing hundreds of thousands of pounds. In this example, the combine was easily repaired and able to continue with the rest of the harvest for 2022.

Classic car tinkering results in surprise engine bay FIRE!

Neil, from Montgomery Motorsport, was tinkering with his classic Vauxhall Chevette but discovered that fuel inside the carburettor had ignited resulting in the fire shown in the video. Thankfully he knew he had a Fire Safety Stick in his shop, and returned to knock down the fire. He extinguished the fire within a few moments but remained at the engine bay continuing to point it at the source to prevent re-ignition.
Montgomery Motorsport is an approved distributor of the Fire Safety Stick already, meaning they were well aware of the effectiveness of this extinguisher, but nothing compares to using it yourself to save your own pride and joy. Especially when in the past, a similar result would have needed an engine rebuild when a traditional extinguisher left a mess everywhere. In fact, Neil test-drove the car soon after to see the extent of the damage and completed a full journey without issue, something that has happened multiple times already when a Fire Safety Stick has been used.

What a WEEK’s difference can make for this rallygoer!

Toby Jefferson a regular competitor in off-road 4×4 rallies, had already heard about the Fire Safety Stick and that it is a must-have for competitors in motorsport. Despite meaning to buy his for months, having seen yet another rally fire and the car being saved with the Fire Safety Stick, he finally bought his.
Luckily, he did too! Just a week or so later… Whilst checking around the coil packs and plugs, he noticed oil debris and with the fuel pumps switched off, he started to clean the area with brake cleaner. He then fired up the engine but unfortunately left an excess of the flammable fluid on the engine and so it ignited.
He grabbed his newly installed Fire Safety Stick, which he had mounted behind the seat and activated it. Toby added that despite the fire being quite intense and getting very close to the wiring for the car, the Fire Safety Stick quickly extinguished the fire…

Marshalls and competitors working together with the Fire Safety Stick to save the car!

During the Twyford Stages Rally in 2022, Kevin Ablitt, in his Peugeot 206 cup car, had his engine bay appear to burst into flames!
Due to the compact shape and lightness of the Fire Safety Sticks, we were able to poke them around in the engine bay, without burning our hands. Then Geoff Henman another competing car kindly stopped and he also handed Matt (Kevin’s co-driver) his Fire Safety Stick too. Matt truly thought the whole car was going to ashes. Matt added, “It could have been a lot worse had it not been for the firestick’s and the rally community coming together to help me.”

£250,000 Rally Car saved purely down to the Fire Safety Stick

November 2022, Darrell Taylor and co-driver Steve “McTrophy” McNulty were taking part in the Bovington & Challenger Stages, having been seeded 1st before the event and then placed first after stages 1 and 2, and then third after stage 3. Sadly in Stage 4, things didn’t go to plan.
During that fourth stage, Steve in the co-driver seat felt his feet getting warm. And then, he actually started to see flames coming from his footwell. Darrell commented, “I’ve never seen him move so fast! He was like a mountain goat getting out of the car”
Anyway, having both got out, they soon discovered the exhaust manifold had fractured and was the source of the fire. Both Darrell and Steve grabbed their Fire Safety Sticks and soon put the fire out. Darrell has no doubt that their quick thinking and the effectiveness of the Fire Safety Stick saved what could have been a very expensive day rallying.

Idling TVR smokes while on the phone!

Back in September 2021, a member of the TVRCC (the UK owners club), Finn Kolling, based in Denmark, had just reversed his 1992 Griffith 400 out of his garage. He left the engine running while he got out of the car to close the garage doors. Unfortunately, during that time he received a phone call which meant he didn’t return to the idling car for about 10 minutes. When he returned he noticed some coming from the footwell of the car.
Finn retrieved his Fire Safety Stick to extinguish the fire immediately, after believing to have done so he moved the Fire Safety Stick away, but the fire re-ignited in some insulation foam stuffed behind a hot piece of metal in a small confined area. However, because of the incredibly long discharge time of the Fire Safety Stick, meant he still had plenty of time to re-direct the stick and therefore ensured that the fire this time was well and truly out.

3 FIA Extinguishers failed before the Fire Safety Stick arrived on the scene!

Ian Paterson was competing in the recent Argyll Rally when his rally car caught fire.
Ian and his team instinctively activated the car’s onboard Fire suppression system, as well as two FIA-approved handheld extinguishers, all three of which failed to extinguish the fire.
Knowing the traditional extinguishers were not working, he reached for a Fire Safety Stick onboard and used a 100-second discharge Fire Safety Stick. The fire was efficiently extinguished before it could cause further damage.
He was left wishing he had reached for the Fire Safety Stick sooner, instead of using the other handheld devices. It certainly would have saved him a lot less damage and mess!

Porsche engine failure forces car retirement & fierce flames!

Wigan Motor Club crew, Martin Fox & Lauren Hewitt were taking part in a Stage Rally at Leconfield, near Beverley in Yorkshire, in their Porsche Cayman rally car,  back in late August 2021. Unfortunately, on the second lap of Stage 2, he had a major engine failure. It appears that a conrod failed and caused a large hole in the engine crankcase, which led to the hot engine oil being sprayed all over the catalytic converter.
As a result, a fierce fire started from the burning oil on the hot exhaust and the crew evacuated the car quickly…
He quickly deployed the Fire Safety Stick and was immediately relieved with how quickly and successfully it extinguished the fire, particularly considering how difficult it would have been to use the standard handheld extinguisher in that location of the car.

Car engine fire and still drove home!

Driving home from Oulton Park in August, Dave Crook’s TVR Tuscan caught fire. The flames from the carburettors were coming out of the vents in the bonnet towards the windscreen and even melted the windscreen wipers.
Luckily for him, he had bought a Fire Safety Stick a few weeks earlier at Silverstone Classics. And using it, the fire was out within 15 seconds. And here’s what really amazed him, having cleaned the area, and pressurised the fuel lines to make sure there were no leaks, the engine started first time and he was fine to drive home!
Had that been the traditional dry powder extinguisher as carried by most classic car owners, though it would hopefully still extinguish the fire as quickly and easily as the Fire Safety Stick, it would have certainly destroyed much of the engine and in the long term the wiring.

Fire Safety Stick saves the day at the Roger Albert Clark Rally 2019!

On the opening evening of the gruelling RAC Rally, DGM Sport boss David Greer stopped at the scene of a road section fire in the Lee Ashberry/Terry Mallin Ford Escort Mk2.
Several other crews had also stopped and assisted but had used up all the handheld fire extinguishers available in the under-bonnet fire.
Greer’s Opel Manta was equipped with an R&R Fire Safety Stick which he immediately deployed, putting out the fire instantly.
